In the season 6 premiere of How I Met Your Mother, titled "Big Days," we find our beloved gang of friends facing some major changes in their lives. Ted, played by Josh Radnor, is continuing his quest for "the one" and begins dating a new woman named Zoey, played by Jennifer Morrison. Zoey is a passionate activist who is fighting to save a historic building, which just so happens to be the same building that Ted's architecture firm is planning to tear down for their newest project.
Meanwhile, Marshall, played by Jason Segel, and Lily, played by Alyson Hannigan, are also dealing with some big changes in their lives as they prepare to start a family. This includes Lily quitting her job as an art consultant and Marshall beginning a new job as an environmental lawyer.
Robin, played by Cobie Smulders, is still trying to navigate her feelings for her ex-boyfriend Don, who she recently broke up with when he got a job in Chicago. And lastly, Barney, played by Neil Patrick Harris, is up to his usual shenanigans as he attempts to break his own record for the number of women he can hook up with in a week.
As the episode progresses, each of the characters face their own individual obstacles and challenges. Ted struggles with the ethical implications of destroying the historic building for his own career advancement, while also trying to impress Zoey. Marshall and Lily face the realization that starting a family isn't as easy as they had hoped, and Robin begins to question whether or not she made the right decision in breaking up with Don.
Overall, "Big Days" sets the stage for a season full of personal growth and major life-changing decisions for our favorite characters. It explores themes of career advancement, family planning, and the ethics of progress while keeping the trademark humor and heart that has made How I Met Your Mother a beloved classic.
