A couple from California, Mika and Rob, have decided to move to New Zealand for a change of pace and to find a better work-life balance. Mika works in engineering and Rob in marketing. They have chosen Auckland for its booming job market, great lifestyle, and proximity to beaches and nature.
The couple is looking for a spacious two-bedroom apartment with an open-concept kitchen and living area. They have a budget of $700,000 NZD or roughly $500,000 USD. They are open to both new and old buildings, but prefer modern amenities like a gym and balcony with a view. Their must-haves include being in a central location and close to public transportation for an easy commute to work.
Their first stop is a brand new apartment complex in the heart of Auckland CBD. The apartment is just what they were looking for with a sleek modern design, floor-to-ceiling windows, and stunning city views. The amenities including a rooftop pool and gym are also a plus. However, the location is not ideal, with no nearby green spaces or peace and quiet.
Their next stop is a renovated apartment in an older building in the trendy neighbourhood of Ponsonby. The apartment has two levels, with the bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs and the living and kitchen area downstairs. The apartment has great natural light, a balcony, and a fabulous view of the harbour. However, the location is not as convenient for their commutes, and it's more expensive than their budget.
Their final stop is a new apartment in an upcoming area of Auckland, Grey Lynn. The apartment is spacious with two large bedrooms, two bathrooms and a great open-concept living area. The building has a gym and a common outdoor area with a barbecue station and garden. Its location is close to parks and green spaces. Rob and Mika are optimistic and feel it is a great investment for their future.
The couple now has to decide which apartment ticks off all their boxes. Mika is leaning towards the trendy Ponsonby apartment which has her favourite interior design features. Rob, on the other hand, prefers the location and amenities in the Grey Lynn apartment. The couple goes back to each apartment for a second viewing before making their final decision.
After a lot of discussion and consideration, the couple chooses the apartment in Grey Lynn as it has the perfect balance of location, size, and amenities for them. They are excited to start their new life in New Zealand.
