Chef Gordon Ramsay visits the Brick Hotel in Newtown, Pennsylvania, on Hotel Hell Season 3 Episode 6. The historic hotel, which was built in 1763, is run by a mother and daughter team named Carole and Christina who are barely keeping the business afloat.
Chef Ramsay arrives at the hotel and is taken aback by the lack of maintenance within the property. Inside, the carpets are stained and worn, the furniture is old and outdated, and there is a musty smell throughout the building. As he explores the rest of the hotel, Ramsay discovers that the rooms are just as poorly maintained as the rest of the property.
After a tour of the hotel, Ramsay sits down with Carole and Christina to discuss their business. He learns that the mother and daughter have struggled to keep the hotel open, yet they refuse to change their ways. Ramsay is befuddled by their refusal to tailor their menu to local tastes and notes that their dinner menu is entirely too complicated. Additionally, their staff is lackluster and unprofessional, which is further aggravating the problem.
Chef Ramsay decides to train the staff himself and makes important renovations to the hotel. First, he has to transform the damp and musty basement into a welcoming lounge. He then procures new furniture and carpeting for the lobby and replaces the old, worn-out mattresses in the hotel rooms. Finally, Chef Ramsay overhauls the kitchen, updating equipment and menus to make it easier for the staff to work.
Along the way, Chef Ramsay provides solid advice to the mother and daughter about the running of the hotel. He encourages them to be more involved in the hotel's overall operations and to be more personable with their guests. Additionally, he provides them with guidance on how to create a menu that is both approachable and appealing.
After the renovations are complete, Chef Ramsay invites locals and travel bloggers to come and test the Brick Hotel's improvements. The responses are overwhelmingly positive, with guests enjoying the new, comfortable hotel rooms and appreciating the updated menus. Many of the guests comment on the significant improvement that Chef Ramsay has made to the hotel.
Ultimately, Chef Ramsay believes that the Brick Hotel has the potential to upscale and become a preferred venue for weddings, corporate retreats, and other social events. As he bids his farewell to the mother and daughter, he encourages them to stick to the new direction the hotel is taking and, more importantly, to stay open-minded and willing to adapt as new challenges arise.
