Horrible Histories season 4 episode 13, simply titled "Episode 13," is a hilarious and educational romp through history that covers a wide range of topics, from ancient Greece to World War II.
The episode begins with a funny song about the ancient Greek athlete Milo of Croton, who was so strong he could allegedly carry a bull on his shoulders. From there, we move on to a sketch about the various ways in which people used to try and prevent illness and disease in the middle ages, including leeches, mercury, and excrement.
Another sketch teaches us about the surprising and often silly origins of some common place names in Britain, such as Chipping Sodbury and Little Snoring. The show then takes a more serious turn with a moving tribute to the soldiers who fought in World War I, complete with real photographs and first-hand accounts.
As always, Horrible Histories manages to make history both entertaining and informative, even when covering more serious topics. This is exemplified in a sketch about the Holocaust, which manages to be both respectful and educational while still getting laughs.
The episode also takes a look at the history of fashion, from the corsets and hoop skirts of the 18th and 19th centuries to the wild and wacky styles of the 1980s. Along the way, we learn fascinating tidbits such as the fact that powdered wigs were originally worn because people wanted to cover up their baldness, and that the most popular form of 80s fashion - the mullet - was actually invented by the ancient Minoans!
One particularly hilarious sketch imagines what it would be like if Shakespeare had written rap songs, complete with brilliant rhymes and wordplay that would make even modern-day rappers jealous.
In addition to the usual sketches, songs, and interviews, this episode also features a fun game show-style competition called "Stupid Deaths," in which contestants must guess which historical figures met their demise in the most ridiculous and bizarre ways.
Overall, Horrible Histories season 4 episode 13 is a fantastic blend of humor and education that will appeal to viewers of all ages. Whether you're a history buff or just looking for some laughs, this episode is guaranteed to deliver.
