Ep 69. Honest Trailers - Transformers: Age of Extinction

  • October 7, 2014

In this episode of Honest Trailers, the team takes on the fourth installment of the Transformers franchise, Age of Extinction. As always, they pull no punches in their humorous critique of the movie.

The trailer starts with the disclaimer that director Michael Bay "doesn't make movies, he makes Michael Bay movies" and goes on to mock the confusing plot and the plethora of new characters introduced in this installment. They also poke fun at Mark Wahlberg's character, a single dad and inventor who inexplicably knows everything about robotics and weapons.

The trailer then moves on to the film's overuse of slow-motion shots, explosions, and product placements. They point out the absurdity of the Autobots needing to hide from the government when they are giant transforming robots, and the fact that the humans seem to be in more danger than the actual robots.

The Honest Trailers team also cannot resist making fun of the film's runtime, clocking in at over two and a half hours. They suggest that it could have been shortened by removing unnecessary scenes, such as the prolonged shots of a beer truck and a Bud Light sign.

One of the major criticisms of the film is the design of the new Transformers, including the Dinobots. The Honest Trailers team is especially harsh on these creatures, calling them "the Power Rangers of Transformers" and mocking their lack of personality and development.

Overall, the Honest Trailers team concludes that Age of Extinction is a "bloated, nonsensical, overly long, and just plain terrible" movie that is "about as enjoyable as a prostate exam from Megatron." They suggest that the film is only worth watching for the hilarious Honest Trailer itself, where the viewer can enjoy some laughs at the expense of the film's many flaws.
