In Homestead Rescue season 1 episode 5, titled "Winter's Fury," the Raney family travels to the remote wilderness of Alaska to help the Lewis family survive the harsh winter conditions.
The Lewis family lives in a small cabin in the middle of the wilderness with no running water or electricity. They rely on hunting and trapping to survive, but with the winter months bringing extreme temperatures and heavy snowfall, they struggle to find enough food and firewood to stay alive.
Marty Raney, a homesteading expert, arrives at the Lewis family's cabin to assess their situation. He quickly discovers that their wood stove is not large enough to keep the cabin warm, and their water source is frozen solid.
Marty enlists the help of his daughter Misty and son Matt to bring in supplies and help the Lewis family prepare for the winter. Misty teaches the Lewis family how to properly set traps for animals and how to use the meat to make nourishing meals.
Matt works to build a new, larger wood stove that will provide enough heat for the entire cabin. He also constructs a new shelter to house their tools and supplies, which were previously stored in an inadequate shed.
Meanwhile, Marty sets to work on thawing out the frozen water source. He uses a chainsaw to cut through the ice and then builds a fire to keep the water flowing.
As the winter wears on, the Raney family continues to help the Lewis family survive. They bring in more supplies and work to fortify the cabin against the harsh weather conditions. They also teach the Lewis family how to preserve their food so that it will last through the long winter months.
Despite the challenging conditions, the Lewis family is determined to make it through the winter. With the help of the Raney family, they are able to stay warm and well-fed and emerge from the winter stronger and more self-reliant than ever before.
