In this episode of Home Improvement, entitled "What a Drag," Tim is feeling down at work because he has to put his beloved hot rod in storage. Meanwhile, Brad is starting to feel like he's not cool enough to hang out with his new girlfriend, Angela.
At home, Al and Heidi are helping Jill redecorate the boys' bathroom. When Tim comes home from work, he's surprised to find the bathroom torn apart. Jill explains that they are redoing it because the boys are growing up and need a more "grown-up" bathroom. Tim tries to argue that he still uses the boys' bathroom too, but Jill shuts him down.
The next day at work, Tim's co-workers notice that he's in a bad mood and ask him what's wrong. When he tells them about his hot rod being in storage, they suggest he start a new project to take his mind off it. Tim decides to build a car engine in his office with all the spare parts he's collected over the years.
Meanwhile, Brad is struggling to come up with something to impress Angela at her upcoming drag race. He decides to turn to Tim for advice, but when Tim starts talking about engine parts, Brad quickly realizes that he's in over his head. He turns instead to Al, who suggests they turn an old lawn mower into a go-kart.
Back at the Taylor house, Jill is having a hard time choosing between two different wallpaper patterns for the boys' bathroom. She asks Tim to weigh in, but he's too preoccupied with his car project to give a straight answer. Jill eventually makes a decision without him, but Tim is still salty about being left out.
As the drag race approaches, Brad and Angela test out their go-kart and realize that it's not going to be fast enough to compete. They turn to Tim for help, and he suggests they use an old air conditioning unit to create a makeshift turbocharger. The plan works, and the go-kart becomes faster than ever.
When Tim comes home from work, he's surprised to find Brad and Angela working on the go-kart in his garage. He's hesitant at first, but he eventually gets excited about the project. He even offers to help by providing a set of spark plugs from his engine.
On the day of the race, the whole family shows up to watch Brad and Angela compete. They're both nervous, but when the race starts, the turbocharged go-kart leaves all the others in the dust. Brad and Angela win the race, and Tim is proud of his son for finding a way to impress his girlfriend without compromising who he is.
Meanwhile, back at home, Jill is thrilled with the new bathroom. Tim apologizes for being so preoccupied with his car project and promises to be more involved in their home renovations moving forward.
Overall, "What a Drag" is a fun and heartwarming episode that showcases the importance of family, friendship, and pursuing your passions.
