In the season 5 premiere of the beloved sitcom "Home Improvement," a lot has changed for the Taylor family over the summer. Each member of the family has grown in their own way, but the changes haven't stopped there. Tim (played by Tim Allen) has upgraded his "Tool Time" set with new and improved gadgets, and is excited to unveil them on the show's first episode of the new season.
As Tim and his loyal assistant, Al Borland (played by Richard Karn), excitedly prepare for the big reveal, things at home are anything but calm. Jill (played by Patricia Richardson) has returned to school to pursue a career in psychology, and is struggling to balance her studies with her responsibilities as a mom and wife. Her coursework has her constantly reading dense textbooks, and her new focused and determined attitude is causing rifts between her and Tim.
As if drama at home wasn't enough, Tim and Al are faced with another unexpected challenge when a hotshot contractor (played by Jason Carter) comes onto the scene, using his charm and flashy technology to try and woo over their audience. Tim is determined to outdo him, even if it means testing out unproven, experimental gadgets on the show.
In the midst of all of this chaos, the family's youngest member, Mark (played by Taran Noah Smith), isn't feeling quite so young anymore. After an unexpected growth spurt over the summer, Mark is suddenly as tall – if not taller – than his older brother, Brad (played by Zachery Ty Bryan). Brad is feeling threatened and self-conscious about the whole situation, and it's up to Tim and Jill to help him adjust to his changing family dynamic.
Throughout the episode, viewers will be swept up in the classic sitcom hijinks that we all know and love. From Tim's usual over-the-top antics on the "Tool Time" set, to the heartwarming moments where the family comes together to support each other, "A Taylor Runs Through It" is the perfect start to a new season of "Home Improvement." Will Tim's flashy new gadgets win over his audience? Will Jill be able to balance her studies and her family responsibilities? And most importantly – just how tall will Mark end up being? Find out in this classic episode of one of television's most beloved sitcoms.
