Tim and Jill Taylor's constant bickering was nothing new to their family, but when Jill's sister Robin comes to visit, the two siblings start a full-scale argument that threatens to ruin everyone's Thanksgiving.
As Christmas approaches, the siblings still can't seem to get along. Even Tim, normally the mediator in the family, can't seem to fix the problem. The fact that Robin and Jill's parents will be coming for the holidays only complicates things further.
The tension finally reaches a boiling point when Robin accuses Jill of being selfish and favoring her own children over her sister's. This leads to a huge argument in front of the entire family, and everyone is left feeling hurt and angry.
In an attempt to bring the family back together, Tim comes up with a plan to take everyone on a camping trip over the weekend. He hopes that being away from their usual environment will help everyone to relax and let go of some of their anger.
The camping trip does not go as planned, however. Jill is worried about leaving the house unattended, and Robin complains about the bugs and lack of amenities. The tension only increases when Tim accidentally hits Robin in the face with a canoe paddle, causing her to storm off into the woods.
Alone in the wilderness, Robin begins to reflect on her relationship with Jill. She realizes that she has been holding onto a grudge for years and that it's time to let it go.
Meanwhile, back at the campsite, Tim and Jill are worried sick about Robin. When she finally returns, the group has a heart-to-heart conversation about their issues. They realize that, despite their differences, they all love and care about each other and that there is no reason to let petty arguments tear their family apart.
In the end, the family returns home feeling closer than ever. They share a beautiful Thanksgiving together and make plans for the upcoming Christmas holiday. It seems that, with a little bit of effort, the quibbling siblings have finally put their differences aside and learned to appreciate each other for who they are.
