In Home Improvement season 1 episode 5, titled "Wild Kingdom," Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor (played by Tim Allen) decides to build a birdhouse for his wife, Jill (played by Patricia Richardson), as a way to show his romantic side. However, things quickly go awry when Tim's overconfidence leads him to believe he can build a better birdhouse than the one he saw in a nature magazine.
Meanwhile, Jill enlists the help of their young sons Brad (played by Zachery Ty Bryan) and Randy (played by Jonathan Taylor Thomas) to create a wildlife sanctuary in their backyard, complete with a pond and plants to attract local animals. However, the boys' grand plans may be more than they can handle on their own.
As Tim's birdhouse project spirals out of control, he turns to his trusty assistant, Al Borland (played by Richard Karn), for help. Al, who is more experienced in woodworking, warns Tim against his reckless approach but is ultimately unable to convince him to follow the instructions.
The situation only worsens when a family of squirrels takes up residence in Tim's poorly-constructed birdhouse, leading to chaos and destruction as he tries to get rid of them.
Meanwhile, the boys' wildlife sanctuary attracts a variety of critters, including a snake that leaves Brad and Randy terrified. Jill, who initially hesitated to embrace the idea of a backyard wildlife haven, steps in to help her sons face their fears and handle the situation.
In the end, Tim comes to realize the error of his ways and learns to follow instructions, while the boys discover that their passion for animals and nature is worth the hard work and challenges that come with it.
Overall, "Wild Kingdom" is a light-hearted and humorous episode that highlights the Taylor family's love for each other and their willingness to take on new challenges, even if things don't always go as planned.
