The first episode of Historic Hauntings takes us to England - a land of myths, legends, and ghosts. Join us as we explore some of the most iconic landmarks in England, from ancient castles to eerie churches and graveyards, with a rich history and spine-chilling tales.
The episode starts with the infamous Tower of London, which has long been rumored to be haunted by the spirits of former prisoners and executed royals. We walk through the eerie corridors and dungeons of the tower, learning about the gruesome history of its past inhabitants while encountering some of the ghostly apparitions that have been sighted over the years.
Next, we visit the quaint village of Pluckley, which holds the Guinness World Record for being the most haunted village in Britain. Walking through the cobbled streets and past its picturesque cottages, we hear about the stories of the various ghosts that have been spotted in this village, including spectral horses, headless horsemen, and even a highwayman.
We then head to the beautiful countryside of Cornwall, where we visit the historical Tintagel Castle, believed to be the legendary birthplace of King Arthur. As we make our way through the rugged ruins of the castle, we hear the tales of how the ghost of King Arthur is said to roam the halls of the castle, along with other spectral apparitions.
Moving on, we travel to the spooky Wookey Hole Caves in Somerset, where we hear about the story of the Witch of Wookey who was said to have turned a man into stone, before being sealed away in the caves by the villagers. As we make our way through the eerie underground passageways, we learn about the macabre history of these caves, including tales of murder, sacrifice, and even cannibalism.
Our next stop is the picturesque city of Bath, where we visit the ancient Roman Baths, built nearly 2,000 years ago. As we explore the ornate buildings and remnants of the Roman Empire, we hear about the various ghostly sightings that have been reported in the baths over the years, including the ghost of a Roman soldier who is said to be guarding a hidden treasure.
We then head to the historic city of York, where we visit the ghostly York Minster, one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in Europe. We learn about the spooky apparitions that have been witnessed in the cathedral, including a ghostly Roman soldier, a headless drummer boy, and even a spectral cat that is said to bring good luck to those who see it.
Finally, we end our journey in the ancient city of Winchester, where we visit the foreboding Winchester Cathedral. As we walk through the grand building and its lush gardens, we hear about the legend of the mysterious Black Monk who is said to haunt the cathedral and bring misfortune to all those who see him.
