Ep 1. Umaru and Her Brother

Umaru Doma is a seemingly perfect high school student with good grades, excellent looks, and exceptional skills. However, outside her school, she keeps a secret from her classmates - she becomes a lazy otaku who loves playing video games and binge-watching anime.

In the first episode of Himouto! Umaru-chan, we are introduced to Umaru and her older brother, Taihei Doma. Taihei works as an office worker and supports Umaru's lifestyle, but he often feels frustrated by his sister's laziness and selfishness. The episode starts with Taihei returning home from work on a rainy day, only to find Umaru already home, wrapped in a blanket and watching anime.

Taihei asks Umaru to help him with cooking and household chores, but Umaru refuses, claiming that she is too tired and needs to relax. However, Umaru realizes that she has run out of snacks and begs Taihei to buy some for her. As usual, Taihei gives in to her demands and goes outside to buy some snacks. Meanwhile, Umaru keeps herself entertained by playing video games and watching anime, still wrapped in her blanket.

After some time, Taihei returns home with the snacks, but he finds out that Umaru has fallen asleep on the floor. He tries to wake her up, and after some struggle, she finally gets up, only to eat the snacks and go back to sleep. Taihei sighs and goes to bed himself, feeling exhausted and frustrated with his sister's behavior.

The next day, Umaru wakes up early and starts getting ready for school. She puts on her perfect schoolgirl persona and leaves the house, leaving Taihei behind. However, as soon as she steps out of the house, Umaru turns into her otaku persona, putting on a hoodie and carrying a bag full of anime and manga.

She meets up with her friends who are also otakus and they go to their favorite manga cafe to read and talk about their favorite anime and manga. Umaru feels happy and contented with her otaku life, but she also feels guilty for hiding it from her brother and her classmates.

As the episode ends, Umaru returns home and apologizes to Taihei for being lazy and selfish. Taihei forgives her, and they make up over dinner. Umaru promises to try and be a better sister, and Taihei promises to support her, as long as she makes an effort to change her ways.
