Hikaru No Go season 1 episode 13, A Personal Resolve, follows the aftermath of Hikaru's encounter with Toya Meijin, a top Go player who offered to teach Hikaru the game. Hikaru's excitement is palpable, as he tries to convince his friends Akira and Waya to come to his upcoming match with Meijin. However, the revelation that Akira already knows Meijin and has played him before shocks Hikaru.
As Hikaru continues to improve, he meets another young player, Kadowaki, who challenges him to a game. At first, Hikaru is dismissive, but Kadowaki proves to be a strong opponent. Kadowaki's determination and love for Go remind Hikaru of his own passion for the game.
Meanwhile, Akari confronts Hikaru about not spending enough time with her, as she feels that he is too focused on Go. Hikaru realizes that he has been neglecting his friends and resolves to make up for it.
Back at the Go salon, Hikaru faces off against Kadowaki in a heated match. He begins to doubt himself, but Kadowaki's encouragement and team spirit give him the confidence he needs to win the game. Hikaru realizes that while Go is a solo game, the support of others can make all the difference.
After the game, Hikaru and Akira go their separate ways, with Akira acknowledging Hikaru as a worthy opponent. Hikaru reflects on his journey so far and sets a personal resolve to become a pro player and face Akira again.
A Personal Resolve is a poignant episode in Hikaru No Go, as Hikaru realizes that the journey to becoming a great Go player is not just about winning games, but also about personal growth and the support of those around him.
