The show Highway To Heaven, season 1, episode 3, titled "To Touch The Moon," follows angel Jonathan Smith (Michael Landon) and his human sidekick, Mark Gordon (Victor French), as they are once again sent to Earth to help people. In this episode, they find themselves in a small town where a retired astronaut named Charlie (John McLiam) lives with his granddaughter, Andrea (Shannen Doherty).
Charlie is now a recluse and is filled with regret and guilt over the loss of his fellow astronaut, Frank, who died in a space mission gone wrong. Andrea has always been fascinated by her grandfather's stories of space and dreams of following in his footsteps. However, Charlie forbids her from pursuing her passion, fearing history will repeat itself. Andrea is heartbroken, but Mark and Jonathan sense that there is more to it than just her grandfather's concern for her safety.
As they delve deeper, they discover that Charlie has been working on a secret project, attempting to launch a rocket into space. Initially, this ex-cosmonaut refuses to allow anyone else to get involved, but eventually, he agrees to let Mark and Jonathan help with the rocket. To Charlie's surprise, they happen to come up with some exciting ideas to help make the mission possible. In the process, they help Charlie overcome his guilt and fear.
Meanwhile, Andrea is invited to visit NASA - an incredible opportunity for someone as passionate about space as she is. Her grandfather finally comes around and gives her the encouragement she needs to pursue her passion.
Throughout the episode, viewers see how important it is to have dreams and goals and that one should never give up on their passions. As always, Mark and Jonathan's presence and guidance help to bring the people they meet closer to their aspirations and help them believe in themselves.
