In season 1 episode 9 of High-Rise Invasion, titled "Which Of Us Will Live a Cool Life?", Yuri and Mayuko continue their search for the transmitter to call for help. They encounter a group of survivors who have barricaded themselves in a room on one of the floors. The group is led by a man named Sota who refuses to let Yuri and Mayuko join them.
In order to prove themselves worthy of joining the group, Sota challenges Yuri and Mayuko to a game of Russian roulette. He gives them both guns with one bullet each and demands that they shoot each other. Yuri and Mayuko refuse to play his game, but Sota becomes increasingly violent and threatens them both.
Just when it seems like Sota will force them to play, a member of his group named Mamoru steps forward and offers to take their place. Yuri and Mayuko protest, but Mamoru explains that he has been longing for a meaningful way to die ever since his family was killed by the angels.
The game begins and everyone is tense as they wait to see who will be the first to shoot. Mamoru is the first to go and he pulls the trigger, but the gun doesn't fire. Yuri and Mayuko are relieved and Mamoru smiles sadly, telling them that at least he got to experience a moment of excitement before he died.
Next up is Sota who pulls the trigger... and nothing happens. Yuri and Mayuko are both confused until they hear a voice from outside the room. It's Sniper Mask, the mysterious figure who has been hunting the angels and helping survivors.
Sniper Mask enters the room and reveals that he has been disabling the guns so no one will die. He tells Yuri and Mayuko that he has found the transmitter and that he can help them call for rescue. Sota is reluctant to trust him, but the other survivors are desperate for help and agree to follow Sniper Mask.
The group sets out to find the transmitter and encounter a group of angels along the way. They fight back and manage to defeat them, but not without losing a few of their own. The survivors are shaken by the loss, but they press on and eventually find the transmitter.
Just as they are about to call for help, Sniper Mask reveals his true identity. He is a former resident of the high-rise who has become disillusioned with the world and has decided to stay and fight the angels until he dies.
Yuri and Mayuko are shocked and hurt by his betrayal, but they know that they have to call for help regardless. They activate the transmitter and wait anxiously for rescue to arrive.
The episode ends on a cliffhanger as the survivors hear a noise from outside the room. They cautiously investigate and find... something unexpected.
