"Hidden" is a TV crime drama series that aired in Wales in 2018. The show is set in the fictional Welsh town of Aberystwyth and focuses on the dark secrets and corruption beneath the town's serene, picturesque facade. In the first episode of season 1, titled "Episode 1", we are introduced to the main characters and the dark crimes that will shape the rest of the series.
The episode begins with a car being driven off a cliff, sending it crashing into the ocean below. The car's passenger is killed, while the driver survives and manages to escape. We then meet DI Cadi John, played by Sian Reese-Williams, who is called to investigate a burglary at a farm. We learn that Cadi recently lost her father, who was also a police officer in the area, and that she is struggling to come to terms with his death.
At the farm, Cadi meets Lloyd Ellis, played by Mark Lewis Jones, who owns the property and is suspected of having ties to a local criminal gang. Lloyd is cagey about the break-in and denies any involvement, but Cadi is unconvinced and begins to investigate further.
We also meet DC Owen Vaughan, played by Sion Alun Davies, who is partnered with Cadi and struggling to juggle his job and personal life. Owen is a new father and is feeling the strain of trying to balance his responsibilities at home with his duties as a police officer.
As Cadi and Owen continue their investigation, they cross paths with an old acquaintance of Cadi's, former detective Huw Owen, played by Ian Saynor, who is now working as a private investigator. Huw has been hired by Lloyd's wife, Megan, to investigate her husband's suspected infidelity. This puts Huw in direct conflict with Cadi and Owen, who believe that Lloyd is involved in more serious criminal activity.
As the episode progresses, we learn more about the web of secrets and lies that surround Lloyd and his family. We discover that Lloyd's daughter, Mia, played by Annes Elwy, has a dark past and has been in trouble with the law before. We also meet Lloyd's brother, Dafydd, played by Gwyn Jones, who is involved with the criminal gang that Cadi suspects Lloyd of working with.
As Cadi and Owen dig deeper, they begin to uncover evidence of a much larger conspiracy that involves multiple players and extends far beyond the small town of Aberystwyth. They soon find themselves in over their heads and in danger of being swallowed up by the corrupt forces that they are trying to expose.
Overall, the first episode of "Hidden" sets the stage for a gripping and darkly atmospheric crime drama that promises to deliver plenty of twists and turns. The performances are strong across the board, with Sian Reese-Williams in particular standing out as a compelling and sympathetic protagonist. The Welsh countryside provides a beautiful and eerie backdrop for the action, and the show's commitment to authenticity and attention to detail give it a unique sense of place and character. Fans of crime dramas and mysteries will find a lot to enjoy in "Hidden".
