Hetty Feather season 4 episode 1 named 'The New Arrival' follows the story of Hetty Feather at the Foundling Hospital in Victorian London. Hetty has been at the Hospital for several years and has made many friends, including Matron Bottomley, who takes care of the children and Nurse Winterson, who keeps the Hospital running smoothly.
In this episode, a new arrival, Lily, is brought to the Foundling Hospital. Hetty is immediately drawn to her and takes her under her wing. Lily is shy and scared, having been orphaned after her parents died in a fire, and Hetty wants to make her feel welcome. Hetty introduces Lily to her friends and shows her around the Hospital. However, not everyone is as welcoming as Hetty. Some of the older girls are jealous of the attention that Lily is receiving from Matron Bottomley and Nurse Winterson. Hetty tries to reassure Lily that she will eventually fit in but, deep down, she knows that making friends at the Hospital takes time.
Meanwhile, Hetty is trying to come to terms with the fact that her mother has re-entered her life. Hetty's mother, Ida, left her at the Foundling Hospital when she was just a baby, and Hetty has always been curious about her. However, when Ida arrives at the Hospital, Hetty is overwhelmed and doesn't know how to react. The other children are also curious about Ida, and Hetty becomes increasingly anxious as she feels that Ida is taking over her life.
As the episode progresses, Hetty tries to balance her friendship with Lily, her relationship with her mother, and her life at the Hospital. She also has to deal with a new boy, Bertie, who has arrived at the Hospital. Bertie is a troublemaker, and Hetty is determined to keep him out of trouble, despite him constantly testing her patience.
Overall, 'The New Arrival' is a heartwarming start to Hetty Feather season 4. The episode focuses on the importance of friendship, family, and the difficulties of growing up in Victorian London.
