HEROMAN is a Japanese anime television series that originally aired on TV Tokyo from April to September 2010. The series is produced by Studio Bones and was created by Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee and his frequent collaborator, the Japanese manga artist Tamon Ohta.
The series follows the adventures of a young boy named Joey Jones, who discovers a sphere-shaped robot named Heroman in a junkyard. Heroman appears to be nothing more than a toy at first, but when a lightning bolt strikes the robot, Joey is transformed into a superhero and gains the ability to control Heroman remotely with a special device.
Together, Joey and Heroman team up to defend their hometown of Center City from a variety of threats, including giant monsters and alien invaders. As the series progresses, Joey and his friends become embroiled in a wider conflict that threatens the entire world.
The series has a distinctive style that combines classic Japanese giant robot anime tropes with American superhero storytelling. The animation is sleek and modern, with plenty of dynamic action scenes and visually stunning set pieces. The character designs by Tamon Ohta are eye-catching and distinctive, with each character having their own unique look and personality.
HEROMAN also benefits from the involvement of Stan Lee, who brings his trademark wit and energy to the proceedings. The series is filled with plenty of self-aware humor and references to classic Marvel Comics characters, as well as Lee's own cameos in the show.
One of the standout aspects of the series is its focus on the bonds of friendship and family. Joey's relationship with his father, a former astronaut, is a key part of the show's emotional core, and his friendships with his classmates also play an important role in the story. At its heart, HEROMAN is a coming-of-age story about a young boy learning to become a hero, both for his own sake and for the sake of those he loves.
Overall, HEROMAN is a fun and engaging series that combines classic anime and superhero storytelling with a uniquely modern sensibility. Fans of both genres will find plenty to enjoy here, from the exciting action scenes to the heartfelt character moments. Whether you're a fan of Stan Lee, Tamon Ohta, or just great animation in general, HEROMAN is definitely worth checking out.
