Lucy and Jim Bailey, the famous singer, are old friends from their days performing at the same nightclub in New York. When Jim comes to town for a concert, he visits Lucy at her house and reminisces about old times with her and her family.
Meanwhile, Lucy's son Jerry has a new girlfriend, Karen, who wants him to introduce her to Lucy. However, Lucy is too preoccupied with Jim's visit to notice Jerry's request.
As Jim and Lucy catch up, they start to sing together and reminisce about their old duets. Lucy's daughter Kim joins in, and they quickly become a trio. Jim proposes a reunion concert for the three of them, to which Lucy eagerly agrees.
However, the concert plans hit a snag when Lucy realizes she has no musical talent whatsoever. Despite her attempts to improve, she cannot hold a tune. Jim tries to coach her, but it's no use. Desperate to avoid embarrassing herself in front of Jim and her family, Lucy decides to fake an illness and drop out of the concert.
Of course, her ruse is quickly exposed, and she is left with no choice but to come clean. Jim is disappointed but accepts Lucy's limitations and encourages her to contribute in other ways. She comes up with a creative idea for the concert and manages to redeem herself in the eyes of her family and Jim.
The episode ends with Lucy, Jim, and Kim performing their old duet, with Lucy managing to hold her own in her own unique way. The concert is a hit, and Lucy's family and friends are proud to see her succeed in her own way.
Overall, "Lucy and Jim Bailey" is a heartwarming episode that celebrates the power of friendship and the joys of music. It features some wonderful musical performances and plenty of humor and heart along the way. Fans of Here's Lucy and classic television in general are sure to enjoy this delightful episode.
