Lucille Ball stars in Here's Lucy, a classic sitcom from the 1970s. In season 2 episode 5, titled "Lucy and Harry's Tonsils," Lucy and her brother-in-law Harry both discover they need to have their tonsils removed. As they prepare for the surgery, they attempt to keep each other calm and make light of the situation.
Lucy and Harry visit the hospital for pre-surgery exams, where Harry's blood pressure skyrockets at the sight of a needle. Lucy tries to calm him down, but her own nerves surface when she sees the size of the tonsil-removal tool. The duo receives some assurance from their doctor, who is a big fan of Lucy's show.
As they wait for their surgeries, Lucy and Harry attempt to cure their tonsillitis with various home remedies, including gargling salt water and eating raw onions. Lucy's husband, Harry's brother, tries to keep the mood light with jokes and pranks, but ultimately they both end up in the hospital.
During the surgery, Lucy and Harry are given different types of anesthetics and have wildly different reactions. Harry becomes loopy and starts telling jokes, while Lucy has a vivid dream about being on a game show. Once they are both awake and recovering, they try to one-up each other's tonsil-removal stories and compete for who was the bravest patient.
Meanwhile, Lucy's daughter Kim is recruited to babysit her baby brother and ends up getting into a hilarious mix-up with a delivery man. Hijinks ensue as they try to settle the misunderstanding and keep the baby entertained.
As Lucy and Harry recover at home, they are both under strict orders to rest and stay quiet, but they can't resist trying to one-up each other with their convalescence stories. Through it all, Lucy's trademark humor and physical comedy make for a lighthearted and charming episode of this classic series.
