Lucy Carmichael is back with another weekly installment of being a single mom and successful career woman in "Here's Lucy" Season 2 Episode 15, "Lucy, the Helpful Mother."
Lucy's teenage daughter, Kim, is preparing for her first big high school dance, but Lucy has her hands full with a long to-do list. In addition to working full-time at the Carter's Unique Employment Agency alongside her boss, Mr. Carter, Lucy volunteers to help with the planning and decorations for the dance. As if that wasn't enough, Lucy promised to bake 100 cookies for the school's bake sale fundraiser.
Kim confesses to Lucy that she's feeling nervous about her upcoming dance debut, and asks her mother for advice on how to ask a boy to be her date. Lucy relays a heartwarming story about asking her own crush to the prom, hoping to inspire Kim's confidence. Kim takes her mother's advice and successfully asks her crush to the dance.
Meanwhile, Lucy is struggling to balance her volunteer work at Kim's school with her regular job responsibilities. Mr. Carter takes note of Lucy's busy schedule and offers to help her out by accompanying her to the school to help with the decorations.
As they work together, Mr. Carter starts to get a little too involved with the dance planning, much to Lucy's irritation. Lucy tells Mr. Carter that she appreciates his help, but she didn't need his bossiness. Mr. Carter apologizes and the two make amends.
On top of everything else, Lucy's sister-in-law, Mary Jane, has recently broken up with her boyfriend and comes to stay with the Carmichaels until she can get back on her feet. Lucy is happy to help her family member, but Mary Jane's presence adds another layer of stress to an already hectic household.
Despite the chaos, Lucy still manages to bake 100 cookies for the school's bake sale fundraiser, an achievement which earns her the title of "the helpful mother" from her daughter and her friends. The episode concludes with Kim's successful dance and Lucy reflecting on the importance of being there for her family and friends no matter what.
"Lucy, the Helpful Mother" is a heartwarming and relatable episode that highlights the challenges and joys of balancing work, family, and volunteer commitments. Fans of Lucy's signature wit and comedic timing will not be disappointed in this timeless classic.
