Ep 20. Hercules and the Comedy of Arrows
- September 29, 1998
When Hercules and Icarus volunteer to protect the kingdom of Arcadia since it is being threatened by a group of robbers, they are met with hostility from the locals including their king, Odius. Odius regards Hercules as a clown and therefore does not take him seriously as he views Hercules as being too weak to stop the robbers.
However, Hercules and Icarus ultimately get their chance to prove their worth when Odius becomes critically injured and they have to find a cure before all is lost.
The cure? The Comedy of Arrows, a plant that can only be found on the mountain top; and so, with the help of Cassandra, Hercules sets out to find the plant.
Due to Hercules and Icarus' disagreements, they take separate paths leading them to different parts of the mountain. Hercules, Rodeo, and Cassandra face an army of thieves who were patrolling the mountain's perimeter mountain top, but with Hercules' strength and quick thinking, they successfully defeat them. After obtaining the plant, Icarus suggests to Cassandra that they shoot the arrows at each other for fun, disregarding their purpose.
Whilst the three are making their way back to Arcadia, they are chased by the robbers. Meanwhile, Icarus and Cassandra, excited to play the game, shoot each other with the Comedy of Arrows, changing the way they perceive humor.
As a result, Icarus falls down and finds Lycos, one of the robbers with each arrow he pulls out making him fall into fits of laughter. Cassandra tries to stop him from using the arrows, but it only ends up hurting him more when she accidentally uses one on herself.
Hercules arrives at the scene, with Lycos now under his guard, but with Icarus and Cassandra standing there acting like children, he realizes that they have used the Comedy of Arrows on themselves. Hercules, not wanting to risk the same fate, tries to carry the plant back by himself, but it turns out to be fruitless due to him being attacked by the other robbers who have followed them.
After realizing that he cannot do it alone, Hercules eventually gets Icarus and Cassandra to help him so they can all carry the plant back down. The three eventually provide the cure for Odius, who then recognizes their valor and bravery in protecting Arcadia, including Hercules' strength, and apologizes for doubting them.
As the episode draws to a close, Icarus and Cassandra, no longer affected by the Comedy of Arrows, make humorous comments. Along with Hercules, the three walk away in laughter as they look forward to their next adventure together.
