Amy and Ty struggle to come to terms with the loss of their mare, Melody, who died while giving birth to her foal, Spark. While Ty is still dealing with the guilt of not being able to save her, Amy is coping with the grief of losing a beloved member of their family. Meanwhile, Lou and Peter have their own issues to deal with as their marriage is tested once again when Peter is offered a job in Vancouver.
As Amy tries to focus on training Spark, she finds herself struggling with the young foal's stubbornness and lack of trust in humans. Ty suggests they bring in an experienced horse trainer, Miranda, to help them with Spark's training. However, Amy is hesitant at first, feeling like she's failed as a trainer and afraid of losing the connection she had with Melody. Miranda quickly proves herself to be a valuable asset as she helps Spark trust humans and begin his training.
At Heartland ranch, the family is gearing up for a big fundraiser to help raise money for the children's hospital. Tim is in charge of preparing the BBQ, but things take a turn for the worse when one of his old rivalries shows up and starts causing trouble. Tim is forced to confront his past and make amends before things get out of control.
Meanwhile, Lou and Peter's marriage continues to be strained as they struggle to find a balance between their careers and family life. Peter's new job offer in Vancouver brings up old wounds and unresolved issues between the couple. Lou feels like she's always the one making sacrifices for the family and begins to question whether their marriage can survive yet another obstacle.
As the fundraiser approaches, everyone at Heartland ranch is working hard to make sure it's a success. Amy and Ty continue to work with Spark, and it becomes clear that the young foal has a bright future ahead of him. Meanwhile, Lou and Peter must decide if their love is strong enough to overcome the challenges of distance and different career paths.
