Heartland season 10 episode 7, titled "Riding Shotgun," follows the daily lives of the Bartlett-Fleming clan who are passionately devoted to rescuing and rehabilitating horses, and in turn, healing themselves.
In this episode, Amy has trouble dealing with a difficult new client, who insists on driving her up to a remote location to check out a horse for sale. Aware of the fact that an off-site visit means being away from her family and the Heartland animals for an extended amount of time, Amy begrudgingly agrees to join him on the trip. Once they arrive, however, she quickly realizes that her reluctance may have been justified. Not only does the horse in question appear to be malnourished and neglected, but the owner seems to be very knowledgeable about horses, rendering Amy slightly intimidated. With the fate of the wayward animal resting on her shoulders, she faces a difficult decision regarding its future.
Meanwhile, Ty is having his own struggles at home. After discovering that Caleb has signed up for a dangerous rodeo competition, Ty confronts him about the unnecessary risks he is taking. Hoping to talk some sense into his friend, Ty shows Caleb a video of a particularly nasty accident he suffered while competing, but Caleb remains undeterred. The situation only worsens when sources indicate that the rodeo has been linked to a rash of accidents in recent years, worrying everyone around Caleb about what could happen.
As Lou is busy planning Jack's surprise birthday party, she is also dealing with the fallout from her recent business dealings. Despite her best efforts to streamline her business, a recent competition has left her reeling, forcing her to rethink her entire plan. With a lot on her mind, Lou struggles to keep everything together while also ensuring that the party goes off without a hitch.
Lisa, meanwhile, is dealing with her own set of problems. After becoming frustrated with her job as a nanny, she has finally decided to put her career first, making her intentions clear to her husband. Concerned about the potential impact on their family life, her husband is hesitant but supportive, giving Lisa the confidence she needs to take a leap of faith and pursue her dreams.
As the episode unfolds, we see the characters navigate the challenges life has thrown at them, all while trying to stay true to themselves and those they love. Each storyline is woven together seamlessly, offering viewers an insight into the complexities and emotions of life on Heartland. Through it all, the show reminds us of the importance of family, perseverance, and the healing power of the heart.
