Heartbreak High is an Australian TV series that aired in the 1990s. The show follows the lives of a group of students at a high school in Sydney, as they navigate through teenage life and all of its ups and downs. Season 1 Episode 20 is titled "Episode 20" and continues the ongoing storylines of the show's characters.
In this episode, the students at Hartley High are preparing for the upcoming school dance. Anita, one of the school's most popular girls, is determined to be named Queen of the dance. However, she faces competition from her ex-boyfriend Drazic's new girlfriend, Jenny. The two engage in a fierce rivalry, with each one trying to outdo the other in order to win the title.
Meanwhile, Nick, the school's troublemaker, finds himself in hot water when he accidentally sets fire to the school's science lab. He is horrified at the thought of being expelled, but his classmates rally around him and help him come up with a plan to fix the damage before anyone finds out.
Elsewhere, Jodie is struggling with a secret crush on her tutor, Mr. Rivers. She doesn't know how to express her feelings or if she should even pursue them, considering their significant age difference. Her best friend, Anita, tries to help her navigate these emotions, but Jodie fears that any confession could ruin their friendship and make things awkward.
In another part of the school, Katerina is feeling left out and invisible. She's jealous of all the attention Anita and Drazic receive, and feels like no one notices her. The school dance is especially difficult for her, as she doesn't have a date and feels like an outsider. However, she finds comfort in her new friendship with Mai, who is also struggling to fit in and be noticed.
As the night of the dance approaches, tensions run high. Anita and Jenny continue to compete for the title of Queen, with each one upping the ante to try and outdo the other. Jodie decides to take a chance and tell Mr. Rivers how she feels, but he is hesitant to pursue a relationship with a student. Nick and his friends work hard to fix the science lab before anyone discovers what happened, but they worry that they won't be able to cover up the evidence.
Finally, the night of the dance arrives. The students dress up and head to the school gym, where they dance, socialize, and enjoy the festivities. Anita and Jenny continue their battle for the crown, while Katerina and Mai have a heart-to-heart about feeling invisible. Jodie and Mr. Rivers have an awkward encounter, but Jodie ultimately decides to let go of her feelings for him and focus on school.
As the dance ends, everyone is feeling exhausted but happy. The night has been a success, and even though there were a few bumps along the way, the students at Hartley High are closer than ever. The future may be uncertain, but they know that they can rely on each other for support and friendship.
