As You Were is the ninth episode of Haven's first season and it is centered around the story of a woman named Hannah Driscoll. She is a former high school girlfriend of Nathan, and she has returned to Haven to attend her ten-year high school reunion. Hannah was a victim of the Troubles, which causes people to live their worst nightmare, and her Troubles come back to haunt her as she relives the day that she died for five consecutive days.
The episode begins with Hannah coming into town for the reunion and getting into a car accident. The accident is caused by her Troubles, which make her relive her own death. She survives the accident and is taken to the hospital where Nathan recognizes her from high school. Recognizing her as an old friend, Nathan tries to comfort her and help her through the Troubles. Nathan unknowingly triggers Hannah's Trouble, and soon all of the people in her life begin to relive their worst moments.
As her friends and family become more and more traumatized by her Troubles, Hannah is forced to confront her past. She learns that her high school boyfriend, Dave, was the one who caused her death. Through her reliving of the past, she also discovers that she had a daughter who is now nine years old.
The revelation of this daughter adds another layer to Hannah's story. She is now living through her worst nightmare again, but this time the nightmare is not just about her own death. She is now worried about what will happen to her daughter because of the Troubles. She becomes distraught trying to figure out how to protect her daughter and still end her Troubles at the same time. She even begins questioning whether or not it is worth ending her Troubles if it means putting her daughter at risk.
Throughout the episode, the love triangle between Nathan, Audrey, and Chris also develops further. Nathan is still struggling with his feelings for Audrey, but he is also dealing with the complicated emotions he has towards Hannah. He was in love with her in high school, and he knows that she still has feelings for him. Audrey sees Nathan's interaction with Hannah and becomes jealous, leading to more friction in their already complicated relationship.
In the end, Hannah is able to find peace by facing her past and saving her daughter. She stops reliving her own death, and her daughter is safe. Nathan is also able to find some closure with Hannah after they confront their feelings for each other and acknowledge that their time has passed. The episode ends with everyone seemingly happy and looking forward to what the future brings.
As You Were is a deeply emotional and well-crafted episode of Haven. It explores themes of love, loss, and the impact of past traumas on our present lives. The storyline of Hannah is heartbreaking, and it is a testament to the writers' skills that they were able to tell such an affecting story within the context of a supernatural thriller. The episode also serves to further develop the relationships between the main characters, setting the stage for more tension and drama in the episodes to come.
