In an Evil Time, the second episode of the second season of Have Gun, Will Travel, finds Paladin (played by Richard Boone) summoned to a small Western town called Junction City. There, he is hired by a wealthy and influential local rancher named Tom Parnell, who is worried about his daughter's safety. Parnell's daughter, Ellen, is engaged to a young man named Harry Dobbs, who is regarded as something of a ne'er-do-well by the more upstanding members of the community.
Paladin's investigation reveals that Dobbs has been getting mixed up with a gang of outlaws who are planning a major robbery and that Ellen's life is in danger as a result. Paladin tries to warn her and convince her to break off the engagement, but she refuses to believe that Dobbs would ever do anything wrong. Despite her loyalty, Paladin keeps a close eye on Dobbs, who seems determined to go through with the robbery despite the risks.
As the situation becomes more and more tense, Paladin must use all of his skills as a gunslinger and a negotiator to prevent the robbery from taking place and to save Ellen from harm. With time running out, he must rely on his wits and his quick draw to outmaneuver the ruthless gang of criminals and protect the innocent people of Junction City.
In an Evil Time is a suspenseful and action-packed episode that showcases Richard Boone's talents as both an actor and a director. The plot is engaging and well-paced, and the supporting cast is excellent. Fans of Westerns will appreciate the attention to detail in the set design and costumes, which create an authentic atmosphere of the Old West.
Overall, Have Gun, Will Travel season 2 episode 2 is a captivating installment of the beloved Western series that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats from the first shot to the last.
