Paladin is tasked with escorting a young woman named Ann McGovern to her father's ranch in the midst of a violent and lawless town. Along the way, they encounter a retired Colonel named Henry Blake who takes a fancy to Ann and invites them to his elaborate mansion. Despite being warned by locals about the Colonel's questionable character, Ann is flattered by his attention and decides to stay with him while Paladin continues on to the ranch.
All is not as it seems, however, as the Colonel's intentions towards Ann become increasingly suspect and Paladin uncovers a dark secret about the man's past. With the help of a local barber and a couple of lawmen, Paladin sets out to rescue Ann from the Colonel's clutches and ensure that justice is served.
The episode features compelling performances from series regular Richard Boone as Paladin, as well as guest stars James Whitmore as Colonel Blake and Patricia Crowley as Ann McGovern.
