Happy Tree Friends Season 1 Episode 2, titled "Lesser of Two Evils," is a dark and twisted animated series that follows the lives of several anthropomorphic creatures who unwittingly find themselves in deadly situations.
In this episode, we see the introduction of two new characters, Lumpy and Toothy. The episode starts off innocently enough, with Toothy, a beaver, attempting to saw through a log with his signature buckteeth. Lumpy, a moose, approaches and offers to help Toothy by holding the log steady. However, even though he means well, Lumpy's clumsiness causes the log to fall and crush Toothy's tail.
The two friends rush to the hospital, where they are greeted by Dr. Lumpy. This is where the episode takes a dark turn. Dr. Lumpy, despite his white lab coat and supposedly professional demeanor, is utterly incompetent. He attempts to surgically re-attach Toothy's tail, but instead botches the operation and ends up dismembering Toothy even further.
As Toothy's body parts fly around the hospital room, Lumpy tries to catch them and put them back together. Meanwhile, Toothy is screaming in agony and begging for someone to put him out of his misery. The other characters watch in horror as the situation spirals completely out of control.
But things only get worse from there. A pack of wolves enters the hospital, and Lumpy tries to trick them into eating Toothy's dismembered body parts instead of attacking him and the other animals. The plan backfires, leading to an even bloodier and more violent scene.
Ultimately, the episode ends with a haunting image of Toothy's mangled corpse and the realization that, in the Happy Tree Friends universe, no character is completely safe.
Overall, "Lesser of Two Evils" is a disturbing and unsettling episode that sets the tone for the rest of the series. It's not for the faint of heart or those who are easily disturbed, but for fans of dark humor and horror, it's a must-see.
