In Happy Days season 7 episode 9, titled "Joanie Busts Out," viewers are taken on a wild ride as Joanie Cunningham, the younger sister of Richie, the show’s lead character, decides she wants to improve her appearance and turn heads for a change.
Joanie is tired of always being overlooked by the boys at school and is determined to change her image. After consulting with her mother about her plan, Joanie decides to get contact lenses and a new hairstyle that will make her standout. Her mother, fearing that Joanie may become too obsessed with her looks, warns her to be careful.
Meanwhile, Fonzie, the show’s resident leather-wearing, motorcycle-riding cool dude, is dealing with his own set of problems. He’s been tasked with trying to chaperone a group of teenage girls who are in town for a cheerleading competition. All the girls in the group, except one, have eyes for Fonzie and he’s finding it nearly impossible to stay away from them.
When Joanie shows up at the competition, Fonzie is taken aback by her new look and can’t help but notice how beautiful she has become since their last encounter. But he stays true to his word and manages to resist her charms, despite her obvious advances towards him.
As the competition comes to an end, Joanie is disappointed that her new look isn’t getting her the attention she had hoped for. But everything changes when she takes part in the talent competition and wows the crowd with her incredible singing voice. Her performance receives a standing ovation, and she finally gets the attention she’s been seeking.
As the night draws to a close, Joanie and the rest of the cheerleading group head back to their hotel. However, things take a turn for the worse when they discover that their hotel rooms have been double-booked, and they no longer have a place to stay for the night.
Not willing to let the group spend the night out on the streets, Fonzie steps in and offers to let them all stay at his place. Joanie is thrilled at the prospect of spending the night at Fonzie’s, and the girls quickly make themselves at home.
The episode ends with Fonzie and Joanie sharing a heart-to-heart conversation on his couch. Joanie confesses that she’s always had a crush on Fonzie, but she knows that he’s not interested in her romantically. Fonzie reassures her that she’s a beautiful, talented girl, and that she doesn’t need to change herself for anyone.
Overall, Happy Days season 7 episode 9 is a heartwarming and entertaining episode that will have viewers rooting for Joanie as she tries to find herself amidst a sea of boys and beauty competitions. It’s a great reminder that sometimes, it’s the things that make us different that make us truly special.
