Fonzie the Salesman is the 11th episode of the third season of Happy Days. In this episode, Fonzie becomes a door-to-door salesman for a company that sells encyclopedias. He convinces Richie to join him in his new venture and the two begin selling the encyclopedias around Milwaukee.
The episode begins with Fonzie showing off his new suit, which he is wearing for his new job as a salesman. He explains to Richie that he has been recruited by the encyclopedia company because of his charm and charisma. Richie is skeptical, but Fonzie tells him that he can make a lot of money selling the books.
The two set out with a stack of encyclopedias and knock on doors, trying to convince people to buy the books. They are met with a lot of skepticism, but Fonzie's smooth talking often wins people over. However, they soon realize that selling encyclopedias is not as easy as they thought it would be.
They encounter a woman who is rude and dismissive, and Fonzie becomes angry with her. Richie tries to calm him down, but Fonzie is determined to sell her a set of encyclopedias to prove her wrong. He finally convinces her to buy a set, but when he goes to collect the money, he discovers that she has given him a check that he cannot cash.
Meanwhile, Howard and Marion Cunningham are having their own troubles with money. Howard is worried about their finances and Marion decides to get a job to help make ends meet. She gets a job at the department store and works alongside a young woman who is more concerned with her social life than her job.
Back at the encyclopedia company, Fonzie is struggling to make sales. He becomes frustrated and decides to quit the job. However, he has already sold several sets of encyclopedias and needs to collect the money. He goes back to the houses where he sold the books, only to find that most of the people have changed their minds and do not want the books anymore.
Fonzie is now in debt to the encyclopedia company and needs to come up with a plan to pay them back. He turns to his friends for help, but they are all hesitant to lend him money. Finally, Richie comes up with an idea to throw a party and charge admission. Fonzie agrees and they make enough money to pay back the encyclopedia company.
In the end, Marion quits her job at the department store because she realizes that she would rather be at home with her family. Fonzie also decides to quit his job as a salesman, realizing that it is not for him. The episode ends with the gang gathered together, celebrating their successes and failures.
Overall, Fonzie the Salesman is a fun and lighthearted episode of Happy Days. It explores the theme of friendship and the lengths that friends will go to help each other out. The episode also highlights the struggles that many people face with money and the importance of finding a job that is fulfilling and enjoyable.
