In the third episode of the first season of Happy Days, titled "Richie's Cup Runneth Over," Richie Cunningham has an upcoming basketball game but his mother Marion is worried about his lack of skills. She tries to convince him to quit the team in order to focus on his studies, but Richie is determined to play in the game and prove his worth.

Meanwhile, Fonzie is asked by the school principal to be the chaperone for the dance, but he's unsure if he can handle the responsibility. And Potsie tries to win the affections of a new girl in school by pretending to be a famous musician.

As the basketball game approaches, Richie trains tirelessly with the help of his father Howard and older brother Chuck. But with Marion's doubts still lingering, Richie begins to question if he's truly cut out for the game.

At the same time, Fonzie is struggling with his role as chaperone as the kids at the dance don't take him seriously. He enlists the help of his buddy Richie to try and keep the kids in line, but their efforts are thwarted by a group of troublemakers.

Back at the basketball game, Richie finally gets his chance to shine and proves to everyone, especially his mother, that he's a talented basketball player. And in a surprising twist, it's Potsie who ends up stealing the show at the dance when he reveals his true identity to the new girl and serenades her with a song.

As the episode comes to a close, the gang celebrates Richie's victory on the basketball court and Fonzie learns a valuable lesson about responsibility. "Richie's Cup Runneth Over" is a heartwarming episode that showcases the struggles and triumphs of adolescence in the 1950s.
