In Hannah Montana season 2 episode 28, titled Joannie B. Goode, Hannah's best friend Joannie returns to Malibu after attending boarding school in Connecticut. Joannie is excited to be back and catches up with Hannah and her friends, including Rico, Oliver, and Lilly. However, Joannie brings some surprising news with her – she's become a talented musician, writing and performing her own songs.
As Joannie starts gaining popularity with her music, Hannah and the gang support her career and even help her book a big performance at the beach club. However, things start to go awry when Joannie's music success threatens to overshadow Hannah's career. Hannah must come to terms with her feelings of jealousy and learn to support and be happy for her friend's success.
Meanwhile, Miley (Hannah's real identity) struggles with balancing her double life as Hannah and herself. When her dad, played by Billy Ray Cyrus, catches her rehearsing as Hannah in their home, he reminds her of the importance of staying true to herself. Miley must decide whether to continue living a double life or to invest in herself as Miley.
As the episode progresses, tensions rise between Hannah and Joannie as Hannah feels pushed aside by her best friend's success. The two girls have a heart-to-heart and Hannah learns to see things from Joannie's perspective. By the end of the episode, Hannah and Joannie perform together on stage, united as friends and supportive of each other's dreams.
