In episode 19 of season 1 of Handy Manny, entitled "Felipe Strikes Out; Pat's Big Idea," Manny and his team of tools tackle two different projects. The first is a repair job for Mrs. Portillo's greenhouse, which includes fixing the roof and replacing a broken window. Manny brings his trusty screwdriver, Phillips, and wrench, Turner, to help with the job. But when Felipe, the Phillips head screwdriver, keeps missing the screws he's supposed to tighten, the team realizes something must be wrong with him. They take Felipe to Doc Flicker, who diagnoses him with a case of "the wiggles," causing him to have shaky hands. With Doc's help, Felipe gets better, and they're able to complete the greenhouse repairs just in time for Mrs. Portillo's prized passiflora vine to bloom.
Meanwhile, Pat the Hammer comes up with a big idea for the community—a playground for the local park. Manny and the other tools are thrilled at the prospect of helping out with such an exciting project. But when they arrive at the park to start construction, they find that the ground is too rocky to dig the holes needed for the playground equipment. Manny tries a few different tactics to break up the rocks, but nothing seems to be working. Just when they're about to give up hope, Manny has an idea to use a special tool he has in his garage—a jackhammer. With the jackhammer's help, they're able to get the playground construction underway.
Throughout the episode, viewers will see some familiar faces from the Handy Manny universe, including Manny's young niece and nephew, Pepe and Chico, who stop by the greenhouse to help water the plants. There's also a brief appearance by Manny's neighbor, Mrs. Lopart, who is delighted to see the new playground going up in the park.
As always, the episode is filled with plenty of mild-mannered problem-solving and positive reinforcement. Kids will appreciate the gentle humor and colorful animation, while parents will appreciate the emphasis on teamwork and perseverance. With two distinct storylines, there's something for everyone in this episode of Handy Manny.
