In the ninth episode of Hammer House of Horrors' first season, entitled "Carpathian Eagle," viewers are taken on a journey to the small town of Karlsbad, where a series of brutal murders have been occurring. The townspeople are frightened, and the police are unable to catch the killer.
Enter Anna Harb, the local historian who believes that the murders are linked to an old legend about the medieval Countess Elizabeth Bathory. According to the legend, the Countess would lure young women to her castle and drain their blood, bathing in it as a means of staying young and beautiful. Anna tells the police that the murders in Karlsbad bear a striking resemblance to the killings attributed to Bathory, who was also known as the Carpathian Eagle.
The police dismiss Anna's theory, but journalist Jill Summers is intrigued. She begins to investigate on her own, even going so far as to visit the ruins of Bathory's castle. There, she discovers evidence that seems to confirm Anna's theory. The police, meanwhile, are no closer to catching the killer.
As the body count rises, more and more people begin to believe that the Carpathian Eagle is on the loose. Jill becomes increasingly obsessed with the case, even putting herself in danger as she investigates. Meanwhile, the killer's true identity remains a mystery.
The tension builds as the townspeople lock themselves inside their homes at night, hoping to avoid becoming the next victim. Jill uncovers more clues, and Anna becomes convinced that she knows who the killer is. But will they be able to stop the Carpathian Eagle before it's too late?
Filled with suspense and mystery, "Carpathian Eagle" is a standout episode of Hammer House of Horrors' first season.
