Hamish Macbeth is a Scottish police procedural comedy-drama television series adapted from the novels of the same name by M.C. Beaton. The show revolves around the main character, Hamish Macbeth, a police constable in the small fictional village of Lochdubh, Scotland.

In season 1 episode 6, titled "A Bit of an Epic," Hamish has to deal with the arrival of the Lochdubh Film Society. They come to the village to shoot a low-budget historical epic about Bonnie Prince Charlie, and they choose Lochdubh as their location due to its picturesque scenery. However, the filming turns sour when the lead actor, Jack Fettes, is found dead on set.

Hamish, who is in charge of the case, starts to investigate and finds out that many people on set had a motive to kill the actor. Jack was not well-liked by his co-stars, crew and the locals. He was arrogant, rude and difficult to work with. Hamish soon discovers that Jack was not only disliked by his colleagues, but he also had multiple affairs with many of the women on set.

One of the actresses, Susie, was Jack's girlfriend. She is a narcissistic and manipulative woman who was in charge of props and costumes on the set. She had a history of violence towards Jack and even threatened to kill him if he ever left her. It looks like Susie is the prime suspect, but she has an alibi, and there is no evidence to link her to the murder.

Hamish then turns to the director, Danny, who had a financial interest in the film and has a history of gambling debts. He also had a contentious relationship with Jack, and it looks like he may have killed him. However, Danny also has an alibi, and Hamish can't find any evidence that points to him.

As Hamish continues his investigation, he discovers that the solution to the case may be much closer than he thinks. He learns that the lower cast and crew members were not being paid their wages and that Jack had tried to intervene on their behalf. Hamish starts to believe that one of the crew members may have killed Jack.

Hamish narrows down his search and finds out that the killer was someone who had a hidden past, and their motive was solely revenge. The mystery is finally solved when Hamish puts together the pieces of the puzzle and arrests the murderer.

In conclusion, Hamish Macbeth season 1 episode 6, "A Bit of an Epic," is an engaging and entertaining murder mystery that keeps viewers guessing until the very end. The beautiful Scottish scenery and the charming characters make this a show worth watching.
