In episode 3 of Gurren Lagann (English dubbed), titled "Who Do You Think You Are, Having Two Faces!," the main characters Simon and Kamina find themselves in a city that seems too good to be true. The city, which is called "Daichi," is unlike any other place Simon and Kamina have ever seen before. The buildings are tall and shiny, the streets are clean, and the people are friendly. At first, Simon and Kamina are happy to have found this oasis in the middle of the wasteland they've been traveling through. However, they soon discover that there's something darker lurking beneath the surface of this idyllic city.
As they walk through the streets, Simon and Kamina notice that everyone they meet is wearing a mask. The masks cover the bottom half of their faces, and the two are initially puzzled as to why this might be. They soon learn from a young girl named Kiyoh that the masks are meant to protect the citizens of Daichi from the outside world. According to Kiyoh, the outside world is full of disease and danger, and the masks are the only way to keep the people of Daichi safe.
Simon and Kamina are skeptical of this explanation, however, and begin to investigate further. They sneak into a building where they believe they'll find answers, only to discover that the building is a kind of factory. Inside, they see people working on machines that are producing more masks. They also see that one of the workers is actually Dayakka, a member of their own team who they thought had died in a previous battle.
Dayakka is just as surprised to see Simon and Kamina as they are to see him, and he quickly explains that he's been taken captive by the people of Daichi. He tells them that he was captured after his gun malfunctioned during a battle and he was forced to flee. Dayakka believes that the people of Daichi are using the masks to keep their citizens under control, and that they're working towards some more sinister goal.
Simon, Kamina, and Dayakka hatch a plan to escape from the city, but they're quickly caught by the guards. The three of them are brought before the leader of Daichi, a man named Makken. Makken is charming and charismatic, and he tries to convince Simon and Kamina that the masks are necessary for the safety of his people. He also reveals that he's been watching Simon and Kamina since they arrived in his city, and he believes that they might be the heroes he's been waiting for.
Despite Makken's smooth talk, Simon and Kamina remain convinced that something is amiss in Daichi. They manage to escape with the help of Dayakka and Kiyoh, and they flee the city under cover of darkness. As they leave, they see that the city is surrounded by a giant, impenetrable wall, which confirms their suspicions that the people of Daichi are hiding something.
In the end, Simon and Kamina are left wondering what the people of Daichi are really up to. They know that they'll eventually have to confront the city again, but for now, they're content to keep moving forward and facing whatever challenges come their way. With Dayakka and Kiyoh by their side, they're confident that they can handle whatever the future holds.
