In the Gunsmoke season 2 episode 7 titled "How to Cure a Friend," Matt and Chester come across an injured man named Jeb who is suffering from a gunshot wound. After bringing him back to Dodge to receive medical treatment, they soon learn that the shooter is a notorious outlaw named Zach Parker.
Determined to bring Parker to justice, Matt sets out to find him with the help of Jeb, who is eager to seek revenge. As they track Parker down, they are faced with numerous obstacles, including a hostile group of gun-toting cowboys and the harsh wilderness terrain.
Meanwhile, Doc Adams is doing his best to save Jeb's life, but the outlook seems grim. In an effort to provide some relief to his friend, Matt sets out to find a cure for Jeb's fever, which he believes could be the key to his recovery.
As Matt searches for a cure, he encounters a wise mountain man who claims to have the secret to healing all manner of ailments. Skeptical at first, Matt is eventually convinced to try the man's unconventional remedies, which involve a mix of herbs, roots, and other natural ingredients.
With time running out, Matt races against the clock to save Jeb's life and bring Parker to justice. As he faces danger at every turn, he must rely on his quick thinking and sharp shooting skills to come out victorious.
In the end, Matt is able to triumph over his adversaries and save Jeb's life with the help of the mountain man's remedies. However, the victory is bittersweet as Matt realizes that he has lost a piece of himself in the process and that he may never be the same again.
