Ground Floor is a sitcom television series that aired from 2013 to 2015 on the TBS network. It stars Skylar Astin as Brody Moyer, a young, driven, and successful banker working for a top corporate firm in downtown Manhattan. Brody's life takes an unexpected turn when he meets and falls for Jenny Miller, played by Briga Heelan, a smart and charming girl who works in the maintenance department of the building where Brody's company is located.
The premise of the show revolves around the clash of cultures between Brody's high-powered banking world, and the blue-collar maintenance staff of the building. Ground Floor is a classic story of opposites attract, with the added twist of class differences.
Initially, Brody and Jenny's relationship is kept a secret as they try to navigate their different work schedules and responsibilities without arousing suspicion from their colleagues, especially Brody's boss, Mansfield (played by John C. Mcginley). As their relationship develops, Brody begins to question his fast-paced corporate life and starts to see the value in the relationships he has with the people around him, who work tirelessly to keep the building running smoothly.
Other characters in the show include Threepeat, played by Rene Gube, a funny and laid-back maintenance worker who becomes one of Brody's closest friends, and Derrick, played by James Earl, Jenny's best friend and outspoken critic of Brody's privileged lifestyle.
The show's humor is mostly derived from the contrasting personalities and social classes of the main characters. Brody is often portrayed as the witty, clever, and successful young banker, while Jenny represents the more grounded, intelligent and down-to-earth maintenance worker, who is quick to remind Brody of his privileged status. The show's comedic timing is sharp, and the dialogue is genuinely funny and clever.
Ground Floor does a good job highlighting the challenges of a mixed-class relationship, and how social hierarchies can impact even the most intimate of relationships. While the show deals with some serious issues, such as workplace harassment, sexism, and discrimination â it also has a lighthearted and playful undertone that makes it an enjoyable watch.
Another strength of the show is its setting. The show is set in a high-rise building, which acts as a microcosm of the world outside. Within this setting, we see characters from different backgrounds and cultures come together, with varying levels of success. The show's writers do an excellent job of creating engaging storylines and characters that the audience can relate to.
Overall, Ground Floor is a well-written, well-executed sitcom series that offers an interesting perspective on the class differences that exist within society. The show is driven by strong writing and hilarious performances from the cast, particularly Skylar Astin and Briga Heelan. While the show only ran for two seasons, it manages to offer a fresh and entertaining take on the age-old story of love conquering all.
Ground Floor is a series that ran for 2 seasons (20 episodes) between November 14, 2013 and on TBS
