In the season 14 premiere of Grey's Anatomy, titled "Break Down the House," the doctors of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital are still reeling from the catastrophic explosion that rocked the hospital at the end of last season. The episode begins with Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) waking up from her brain surgery, only to find that her tumor has grown back, and she might never be able to operate again. Meanwhile, Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) is struggling with the aftermath of the explosion, and whether her leadership during the crisis was enough.
The episode also introduces a new group of interns, who are all eager to impress their superiors and make a name for themselves in the competitive world of surgery. One intern, in particular, stands out from the rest - Andrew DeLuca's (Giacomo Gianniotti) sister, Carina DeLuca (Stefania Spampinato). She's a brilliant OB/GYN who immediately clashes with Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw), but also catches the eye of Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd).
As the doctors scramble to deal with the aftermath of the explosion, tensions are high and emotions are raw. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) is coming to terms with his feelings for Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington), while Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) and Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary) are still trying to navigate their complicated new relationship. And as always, there are plenty of medical emergencies to keep the doctors on their toes, including a mysterious illness that seems to be spreading throughout the hospital.
"Break Down the House" is a powerful and emotional start to season 14, as the doctors of Grey Sloan Memorial try to pick up the pieces and move forward after a devastating tragedy. The episode sets the stage for what promises to be another season of heart-wrenching drama, unforgettable characters, and life-and-death medical emergencies. Fans of the show will not be disappointed by this powerful and compelling premiere.
