Hal Jordan and Kilowog end up on the planet Grenda after following a trail of missing ships. There, they encounter the first-ever Green Lantern, whose ring runs on steam – hence his name, Steam Lantern. The two Green Lanterns quickly find themselves at odds with the rustic Steam Lantern, who refuses to use any technology other than his steam-based gear. While Hal and Kilowog try to convince Steam Lantern to help them, they soon discover that the source of the missing ships may be related to the planet's ruler, Queen Aga'po.
As the trio tries to get to the bottom of the mystery, they encounter resistance not only from Queen Aga'po and her minions but also from the planet's steam-powered guardian, the Arkillo. Despite the challenges, Hal and Kilowog refuse to give up, and they eventually team up with Steam Lantern to take on the malicious forces threatening the safety of the planet.
Throughout the episode, Hal and Kilowog's frustration with Steam Lantern's resistance to technology becomes a recurring theme, mirroring the long-standing conflict between the fans of classic, traditionalist comics and those who prefer the new wave of technological, high-concept writing.
In the end, however, the team learns that their differences can be set aside in the face of real danger, and that each Green Lantern's unique approach to their ring is what makes them a valuable member of the Corps. Steam Lantern's refusal to use anything but his steam power becomes a strength, allowing them to outsmart Queen Aga'po and the Arkillo in a way they never could have anticipated.
Overall, the episode is a captivating adventure that explores the tension between tradition and progress while also delivering an action-packed story full of peril and excitement. Through their adventures on Grenda, Hal Jordan, Kilowog, and Steam Lantern discover the true meaning of being a part of the Green Lantern Corps, and that working together is the key to solving even the game's most challenging puzzles.
