Oliver is excited to meet with the president of the Hooterville Chamber of Commerce to discuss the possibility of opening a new hardware store in the town. However, he quickly realizes that the president, Mr. Haney, is not interested in helping him out. In fact, Mr. Haney only wants to sell Oliver a rundown old building that has been vacant for years.
Feeling frustrated and defeated, Oliver turns to his wife Lisa for support. Lisa suggests that Oliver fix up the building himself and turn it into the hardware store of his dreams. Oliver is hesitant at first, but Lisa convinces him that he is handy enough to tackle the project.
After much persuading, Oliver decides to take on the challenge. He starts by cleaning out the old building and realizing just how much work needs to be done. He enlists the help of the Monroe brothers, who are known throughout Hooterville for their handyman skills.
The Monroe brothers quickly get to work, but Oliver soon realizes that they are not as skilled as they claim to be. He also realizes that the project is much bigger than he anticipated. Despite the setbacks, Oliver is determined to see the project through and turn the run-down building into a successful hardware store.
As Oliver and the Monroe brothers continue to work on the building, Lisa starts to worry about the financial burden that the project is placing on their family. She suggests that they sell some of their possessions to make ends meet, but Oliver is insistent on seeing the project through to the end.
As the project progresses, Oliver begins to feel more confident in his handyman skills and starts to take on more responsibilities in the renovation process. However, the Monroe brothers continue to cause problems, and the project gets delayed as a result.
Eventually, the hardware store is completed, and Oliver and Lisa have a grand opening celebration. The store is a huge success, and Oliver is thrilled to finally be a successful businessman in Hooterville.
In the end, Oliver learns the valuable lesson that hard work pays off, and that sometimes in life, you have to take matters into your own hands to make things happen. Lisa also learns the lesson that sometimes, your partner's dreams are worth fighting for, even if it means sacrificing in the short-term.
