Ep 7. Don't Count Your Tomatoes Before They're Picked

Oliver and Lisa Douglas are in a hurry to impress the county fair judges, who are coming to inspect their farm. They have high hopes for their tomato harvest, but their excitement is tempered by the knowledge that their neighbor, Fred Ziffel, has won first prize for the past 25 years in a row. Oliver is determined to beat Fred, but Lisa is skeptical and suggests they focus on doing their best rather than winning.

As they prepare for the fair, Lisa and Oliver discover that their hired help, Eb, has been secretly using their equipment to grow his own crop of tomatoes on their land. Oliver is furious and fires Eb, but Lisa is more forgiving and suggests they use Eb's tomatoes as their own. Oliver reluctantly agrees, but warns Lisa that they must be very careful not to get caught.

At the fair, Oliver and Lisa present their tomatoes to the judges, but are dismayed to find that they are not as impressive as they had hoped. Fred, meanwhile, presents his usual perfect crop and is confident he will win again. As the judges deliberate, Oliver and Lisa anxiously wait for the results. When the winners are announced, they are shocked to discover that they have won first prize. As they bask in their moment of glory, however, they realize that their victory has come at a cost. When Fred congratulates them, they know he suspects something and that their reputation in the farming community is now tarnished.

The rest of the episode deals with Oliver and Lisa's attempts to make amends with their neighbors and restore their good name. In the end, they learn that honesty is the best policy and that it is better to lose with integrity than win through deceit. The episode ends with a touching scene of Oliver and Lisa working together in their garden, planting new seeds and looking forward to a fresh start.
