Oliver Douglas and his wife Lisa have left their upscale life in New York City to live in rural Hooterville, where they have bought a rundown farm. Despite numerous obstacles, the couple has managed to make a life for themselves in their quirky new community. In this episode of season 3, titled "Haney's New Image," the Douglases find themselves embroiled in another of their neighbor's schemes.
Mr. Haney, Hooterville's resident con-man and general purveyor of dubious goods and services, is up to his usual tricks, trying to sell the Douglases on his latest wild proposition. In this case, Haney has come up with a new line of beauty products that he claims will revolutionize the beauty industry. Naturally, the Douglases are highly skeptical, but they can't resist Haney's pitch.
Meanwhile, Haney employs his usual bag of tricks to drum up business, including plastering the countryside with garish billboards and staging an over-the-top promotional event complete with a beauty queen, a parade, and a marching band. Oliver, being the pragmatic and sensible one in the relationship, is none too impressed with all of Haney's antics and tries to convince Lisa to steer clear of the whole mess.
However, Lisa, who has always had a bit of a vain streak, can't resist the allure of Haney's beauty products and starts using them. Much to her surprise, they actually seem to work, and she finds herself looking and feeling younger and more vibrant than ever before. Naturally, this newfound confidence goes to her head, and she starts to embrace her inner diva, much to Oliver's chagrin.
As Lisa becomes more and more enamored with her new beauty routine, Oliver grows increasingly concerned. He tries to talk some sense into her, but she refuses to listen, insisting that she is finally living her best life. It's not until one disastrous public appearance that she realizes just how foolish her behavior has been and comes to her senses.
In the end, the Douglases come to the conclusion that it's better to be happy with who they are than constantly chasing after the latest fads and trends. They learn that true beauty comes from within, and that happiness and contentment can't be found in a bottle of beauty cream. As usual, Haney's scheme ultimately fails, but he's undeterred, already concocting his next zany idea.
"Haney's New Image" is a classic episode of Green Acres, full of the show's trademark wacky humor and charming small-town eccentricities. It's a fun and lighthearted romp that touches on themes of self-acceptance and the allure of the latest fads. While it may not be the most poignant or profound episode in the series, it's a great example of Green Acres at its most delightful.
