Oliver and Lisa Douglas find themselves in the middle of a town feud in the Green Acres season 2 episode 9 titled "The Hooterville Image." After spending two years in Hooterville, Oliver realizes that the town does not have a clear image to outsiders; it is seen as a backwards and dull place. Oliver wants to change the image and make the town a more vibrant and attractive destination for tourists. However, a group of residents, led by Luke McCoy, disagrees with Oliver's ideas and opposes his efforts to improve the town.
The episode begins with Oliver trying to convince Lisa that Hooterville has no image, and he wants to change that. He comes up with the idea of creating a promotional brochure that highlights the town's attractions. Lisa agrees to help him and they start working on it.
Soon after, Oliver realizes that the town's historical society has been storing records in a dilapidated building. He offers to help them move the records to a more suitable location, but the offer is rejected by Luke McCoy, who tells Oliver that the building is a historical landmark and cannot be touched. Oliver soon realizes that Luke and his group are trying to prevent any changes to Hooterville that do not fit their view of the town.
Oliver decides to push forward with his plans anyway and starts taking pictures of various locations in the town. While he is doing so, he meets Mr. Haney, who tells him that he would be a great candidate for the town's Mr. Positive Award. Oliver is thrilled and decides that it would be a great opportunity to promote Hooterville.
However, things take a turn for the worse when Luke McCoy and his group learn about Oliver's plans. They confront Oliver and Lisa and tell them that they do not want Hooterville to become a tourist destination. Luke's group believes that Hooterville should remain a small and quaint town, and they do not want any outsiders to change their way of life.
Oliver and Lisa are taken aback by the opposition, but they refuse to give up. They decide to organize a town meeting to discuss the issue. At the meeting, Oliver presents his ideas to the residents, hoping to persuade them to support his efforts. While some are open to the idea, Luke and his group remain convinced that Hooterville should stay the same.
After the meeting, Oliver and Lisa realize that they are fighting a losing battle. They are discouraged and decide to leave the town. However, before they go, Mr. Haney presents Oliver with the Mr. Positive Award, telling him that he has done a lot for the town and that he will always be remembered as a positive force in Hooterville.
As they pack up to leave, Oliver and Lisa receive a surprise visit from the town's children. The children present them with a scrapbook that they put together to show their love and appreciation for the couple. Overwhelmed by the gesture, Oliver and Lisa realize that they have made a positive impact on the town, regardless of the opposition they faced.
In summary, "The Hooterville Image" deals with the issue of change and opposition to change. Oliver and Lisa want to improve Hooterville's image, but they face resistance from a group of residents who believe that the town should remain the same. The episode highlights the importance of compromise and acceptance of different views to create a more positive and welcoming community.
