Oliver and Lisa Douglas are continuing to adjust to their new life in Hooterville, but they quickly realize that their farmhouse is badly in need of a makeover. After some discussion, the couple decides to hire an interior decorator to help spruce up their home. Enter Marcia, a stylish and somewhat eccentric decorator who promises to transform the Douglas' home into a veritable palace.
Despite Marcia's assurances, Oliver is hesitant to let her take over the decorating process. He worries that her modern, trendy designs won't fit in with the traditional farmhouse aesthetic, and he's concerned about the cost of hiring a professional. Lisa, on the other hand, is thrilled at the idea of having a professional decorator and is all-too-eager to hand over the reins.
As Marcia starts making changes to the Douglas' home, Oliver's worst fears are realized. Marcia's ideas are indeed modern and trendy, and they clash terribly with the rustic charm of the farmhouse. From wild wallpaper choices to gaudy light fixtures, every design decision Marcia makes seems to push the Douglas' home further away from the cozy retreat they had envisioned.
Things come to a head when Marcia unveils her pièce de résistance: a bright, hot pink bathtub in the middle of the living room. Oliver is appalled, but Lisa is thrilled. The two bicker back and forth, with Lisa insisting that they should trust Marcia's expertise and Oliver arguing that Marcia is ruining their beloved farmhouse.
Just when it seems like things can't get any worse, the Douglas' neighbors start to take notice of Marcia's over-the-top designs. Haney, the town's shyster, sees an opportunity to scam the couple out of even more money by claiming that the whole town is laughing at them behind their back. He convinces Oliver that they need to quickly fix the farmhouse to avoid further humiliation.
Feeling humbled and frustrated, Oliver decides that he needs to take matters into his own hands. He starts to undo all of Marcia's changes, painting over her wild wallpaper with warm, earthy tones and replacing her gaudy light fixtures with understated, classic ones. In the end, Oliver's efforts pay off, and the farmhouse is transformed into the warm, cozy retreat the couple had always envisioned.
The Decorator is a fun and charming episode of Green Acres, one that offers a glimpse into the often-absurd world of interior design. Through Oliver and Lisa's experiences, viewers are reminded of the importance of staying true to oneself and of not getting caught up in trends or fads that will quickly fade away. Whether you're a fan of vintage sitcoms or just looking for some lighthearted entertainment, The Decorator is sure to leave you feeling satisfied.
