Carol, the lovable and slightly kooky intern turned staff writer at MMN, has a problem. She's being bullied by one of her fellow writers, Greg. While the rest of the staff has always thought Greg was a bit of a jerk, they never knew he was capable of this level of meanness.
Carol tries to brush it off at first, but as the bullying escalates, she becomes more and more distressed. She tries to talk to Greg, but he just dismisses her concerns, telling her to "grow a thicker skin." Finally, Carol goes to Katie for help.
Katie, being the supportive boss that she is, immediately rallies the troops. She and the rest of the staff come up with a plan to stand up to Greg and show him that his behavior is not acceptable. They even launch a #StopTheBully campaign on social media.
However, things don't go exactly as planned. Greg doesn't take kindly to being called out in front of his colleagues and begins to retaliate in even more aggressive ways. Carol, meanwhile, is horrified at the thought of being at the center of such a public spectacle.
As tensions continue to mount, the staff realizes they need to take drastic action if they want to keep Carol safe. They stage a fake kidnapping of Greg, hoping to scare him into backing down. But when Greg finds out that his own colleagues were behind the stunt, he doesn't take it well.
In the end, the staff is forced to confront the truth: they can't change Greg's behavior, only he can do that. They decide to focus on supporting Carol instead, and offer her the kindness and understanding she needs to heal from the trauma of the past few weeks.
Through it all, Great News reminds us that bullying is never okay, and that it's important to stand up for ourselves and each other even when the going gets tough.
