In season 1 episode 5 of Great News, titled "Snowmageddon of the Century," the newsroom at MMN experiences a major snowstorm that threatens to halt all operations. The episode focuses on the various characters' reactions to the snowy conditions and the challenges they must overcome to keep the news station running.
As the snowstorm hits, most of the workers at MMN are forced to stay at the office rather than risk treacherous travel conditions. Among these workers are lead anchor Chuck Pierce (John Michael Higgins), executive producer Greg Walsh (Adam Campbell), and field reporter Beth Vierk (Andrea Martin). While Greg and Beth attempt to keep things running smoothly at the news station, Chuck spends his time stirring up drama by spreading rumors and gossiping about his colleagues.
Meanwhile, lead producer Katie (Briga Heelan) has her hands full trying to get to the office through the storm. Along the way, she enlists the help of her young intern, who proves to be surprisingly helpful. Once they make it back to the office, however, Katie realizes that one of her work projects has been sabotaged by Carol (Andrea Martin), the station's meddling and over-involved executive producer.
As a result of the sabotage, Katie has to scramble to fix the issues and get the show back on track. Through determination and resourcefulness, she is eventually able to overcome the obstacles and put together a successful broadcast in the midst of the snowstorm. Throughout the episode, there are also various subplots involving the interpersonal relationships between the characters, including a romantic storyline involving producer Justin (Horatio Sanz) and page/assistant Portia (Nicole Richie).
Overall, "Snowmageddon of the Century" is a lighthearted and entertaining episode that showcases the various personalities and dynamics at play within the MMN newsroom. Despite the challenges presented by the snowstorm and the interpersonal drama, the characters are ultimately able to come together and maintain the high standards of their workplace.
