Katie Wendelson, an ambitious 30-year-old news producer, is back with another episode of Great News season 1, the comedy television series premiered on April 25, 2017, on NBC. The second episode of the show is titled Bear Attack, which was aired on May 2, 2017.

In the previous episode, we saw Katie (Briga Heelan) trying her best to impress her boss, Greg (Adam Campbell) at MMN news channel, eying for a promotion. Meanwhile, she was also going through a tough time balancing her work and personal life after her mom, Carol (Andrea Martin), decides to implement herself at the news station.

The second episode starts with Carol's unexpected arrival, decked up to work for MMN news. Carol's intermittent weird antics amuse the news interns, Chuck (John Michael Higgins) and Portia (Nicole Richie), while it gets on Katie's nerves. First, Carol brings her pet bird to the news station, followed by her bizarre lunch choices. Carol then reveals she has a video of Katie on her phone, which she recorded when Katie was drunk, which puts Katie under a lot of pressure.

Meanwhile, Chuck and Portia get assigned to work on a top story about a mother-daughter-daughter trio, who were mauled by a bear in the park. As the investigative report proceeds, Chuck interviews one of the daughter, but the conversation turns out to be completely unrelated to the bear attack. This leads to a series of hilarious misunderstandings between the mother and the daughter-daughter trio, much to the chagrin of their family's public relations manager.

As the news story progresses, Katie realizes that if they report the bear attack story, their station will receive a lot of backlash for not having sufficient staff in the park during the attack. She decides to come up with a unique angle to the story. With Portia's help, Katie publicizes the story that the bear that attacked the family was, in reality, the same bear that had bitten a lady some months ago and that the park authorities kept the fact a secret.

The news story gets viral, with other media houses also picking it up, which puts pressure on the park authorities to take action against the rogue bear. Soon enough, Chuck and Portia get popular and gain recognition for their sensational story, gaining a social media following.

In between all this, we still see Carol trying to help Katie in all possible ways. When Katie's suggestion to boost the story falls flat, Carol puts on her thinking cap and comes up with the idea of making a bear cut out, which they could use as a model whenever they talk about the attack. This silly cut-out strategy soon becomes a trademark for their news station, and the interns have fun while making it.

The second episode of Great News season 1 – Bear Attack is an enjoyable display of quirky comedy as we see Katie struggling to balance her professional and personal life. The episode establishes various relationships between all the characters, and we also get a glimpse of how MMN News operates. The show's humor, light-hearted moments, and engaging storytelling make it an easy watch. The characters' camaraderie is flawless and adds to the fun elements of the show.

Overall, the second episode, Bear Attack, sets the tone for what is yet to come, leaving the viewers excited and curious for the next episode.
