The episode begins with an introduction to Psyche, a mortal woman renowned for her unparalleled beauty. Despite her many suitors, Psyche remains unmarried as her beauty is seen as a curse, causing jealousy and resentment among those around her.
Determined to find a husband for his daughter, Psyche's father makes a dangerous decision to visit the temple of the goddess Aphrodite and make a plea for her assistance. However, Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, is angered by the request and decides to punish Psyche by forcing her to marry a terrible monster.
As Psyche is led to her monstrous husband, she is surprised to discover that he is not a beast at all, but rather the god of love, Eros. Eros explains to Psyche that his mother Aphrodite demanded he make Psyche fall in love with the most vile creature imaginable in hopes of breaking her spirit.
Despite Eros' reassurances of love and the beauty within her, Psyche cannot resist the urge to see her husband's true form. She disobeys Eros' warning and sneaks a peek, causing him to flee and leaving Psyche to face the wrath of Aphrodite.
Psyche then embarks on a journey to prove her love and loyalty to Eros, facing numerous trials and tribulations along the way. She must perform three impossible tasks set by Aphrodite, including retrieving a sample of golden fleece from a herd of vicious rams, filling a flask with water from the River Styx, and retrieving a box of beauty cream from Hades, the god of the underworld.
With the help of various gods and creatures, including ants, a river god, and even Zeus himself, Psyche completes each task with bravery and determination.
In the end, Eros is moved by Psyche's devotion and returns to her, explaining that their love was always destined to be. Together, they receive the blessing of the gods and are married in a grand ceremony, where Psyche's beauty is no longer seen as a curse, but rather a gift from the gods.
